As you can see in the photos, there is pitting to the bottom which is not uncommon for a skillet this old. Usually pitting happens when the skillet is left to sit on hot coals for a long time. It looks like that was the case here. Maybe it was taken on a camping trip and left outside over night. It’s part of it’s history I suppose and the cool thing about antique skillets is, that could’ve happened over 100 years ago. We’ll never know.

The skillet is otherwise in tremendous condition for its age. No cracks or anything like that and it lays relatively flat. I wouldn’t say it has a wobble necessarily. More of a slight wiggle when placed on a flat surface. Nothing that will prevent it from continuing to do its job for another 120 years (with proper care of course.)

Overall, just an excellent find. The really large, antique Wapaks like this some of my favorite skillets. Sure, the logos are crude and they look like a child etched them but the quality is every bit as good as some of the late 1800s Erie skillets I’ve restored. When you see one in person and first hold it, you’ll know exactly what I mean. You are going to absolutely love this pan.

Fully restored: Stripped clean, seasoned at high temperatures in avocado oil and and ready to get back to work.

    Measures 16.25” x 12.5” and weighs 5.4 lbs.
